Travis Pastrana parodies endorsements in video petitioning sponsors for backing in Las Vegas Truck race

Travis Pastrana wants your help in fielding an entry in his return to NASCAR.

But he doesn’t want fan’s money. He wants their social media influence to help him start the Sept. 30 Camping World Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In a Facebook video, the action sport star parodies NASCAR driver endorsements as he asks fans to petition a select group of sponsors for the effort by sharing the video.

From Goody’s to Dunkin Donuts to Captain Morgan (“Enough said”), the 33-year-old and his friends run the gamut of sponsors that could possibly adorn his No. 45 truck.

If the campaign is successful, Pastrana would make his first NASCAR start since the 2015 Truck series race in Las Vegas.

Prior to that, Pastrana attempted the entire 2013 season in the Xfinity Series driving the No. 60 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing. The Annapolis, Maryland, native earned four top 10s and one pole (Talladega) in the 33-race season. He finished 14th in the standings.

He made 42 Xfinity starts, but stepped away from the sport to take care of his family and the Nitro Circus Live franchise.

But Pastana, who has had successful careers in the American Rally Association and BMX racing, calls his short NASCAR career “the least successful of any venture I’ve gotten into.”

Pastrana recently reflected on his NASCAR career with USA Today Sports.

He made his transition to NASCAR as he was coming off four straight Rally championships and had to choose between uprooting his family to compete in Rally competition in Europe or stock car racing.

“Where do all the best drivers in the U.S. go?” Pastrana said. “As much as the general public doesn’t want to admit it or doesn’t understand it, the best drivers in America and the best drivers in the world, they go to NASCAR. It is the most competitive form of auto racing on the planet. So I said all right all right, let’s see what it is.”

Pastrana made his first NASCAR start in February 2011 in a K&N Pro Series West race at Phoenix Raceway. He made three more starts in the K&N East that year before making nine Xfinity starts and eight more K&N East starts in 2012.

In the K&N Series he competed against the likes of Darrell Wallace Jr, Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott, drivers currently establishing their names in the Xfinity and Cup series.

“Looking at how much they were driving, literally sometimes six races a week,” Pastrana said. “I had a kid my first year in NASCAR and wife and everything and I needed to pretty much go back to the basics and learn from go karts and dirt track and learn all that stuff those guys had learned. So, it was an awesome experience, but it was too far out of my wheelhouse, no pun intended.”

Now with the help of fans, Pastrana hopes to make another start in the sport that got away.
