Erik Jones crashed into the wall in Friday's Cup at Texas Motor Speedway, but still came away with one of the fastest practice times.

Chase Elliott and Erik Jones each will go to a backup car after crashing in separate incidents with less than 25 minutes left in Friday’s Cup practice at Texas Motor Speedway.

Both were uninjured.

Jones’ car drifted up entering Turn 4 and kept going up the track until he hit the wall.

“The second I got in the grey, it took off and there is no coming back,’' Jones told Fox Sports 1. “It’s unfortunate. We’ll get our backup car ready and, hopefully, it will be just as fast.’'

Jones was fourth on the speed chart at the time. He was attempting a mock qualifying run when he crashed.

He was the third of four drivers to have an incident in practice. Denny Hamlin spun in Turn 2 and didn’t make any contact. Kyle Busch slid in Turn 2 and made slight contact with the right rear of the car with the SAFER barrier. Busch’s team will repair the car but plans to skip qualifying, forcing him to start at the rear of the field for Sunday’s race.

Shortly after Jones’ incident, Elliott got high off Turn 2, hit the wall and slid down the track, smacking the inside SAFER barrier.

“Just got out of the groove off (Turn) 2 and got too high and got into the wall,’' Elliott told Fox Sports 1. “Mistake on my end, hate it.’'
