NASCAR Cup and Xfinity teams head to a giant unknown this weekend with races at the newly repaved and reconfigured Texas Motor Speedway.

Due to tight scheduling in relation to the completion of the repave last month, Goodyear was unable to conduct a test at the track in order to create a tire designed for it.

As a result, both series will be using tire compounds that were used last year at Kentucky Speedway following its repave/reconfiguration.

The left-side tire code (D-4688) is the one all three national NASCAR series ran at Kentucky last season. The right-side code (D-4718) is new and features the same tread compound as the right-side Cup teams ran at Kentucky last July, with a minor construction change. Like on all ovals longer than 1-mile, teams are required to run liners in all four tire positions at Texas. Air pressure in the inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than in the outer tire.

Cup team will be allotted four tire sets for practice, one set for qualifying/start of race and 11 sets for Sunday’s race.

Xfinity teams will be allowed nine tire sets for the entire weekend.

Here’s the tire info:.

Tire Codes: Left-side -- D-4688; Right-side -- D-4718

Tire Circumference: Left-side -- 87.56 in. (2,224 mm); Right-side -- 88.62 in. (2,251 mm).

Minimum Recommended Inflation: Left Front -- 25 psi; Left Rear -- 25 psi; Right Front -- 56 psi; Right Rear -- 52 psi
