Race pole-sitter Joey Logano fastest in final Cup practice at Phoenix

After already winning the pole for Sunday’s Camping World 500 at Phoenix Raceway, Joey Logano came back for an encore performance in the final NASCAR Cup practice session Saturday.

Logano and his Ford Fusion was fastest in happy hour with a speed of 134.736 mph. Logano won the most recent Cup race at the one-mile oval, in last fall’s penultimate playoff event.

Matt Kenseth (134.519 mph) was second-fastest, followed by Kyle Busch (134.399), Brad Keselowski (134.384) and Jimmie Johnson (134.368).

Sixth through 10th were Erik Jones (134.208), Clint Bowyer (134.058), Kyle Larson (134.033), Martin Truex Jr. (133.963) and Jamie McMurray (133.824).

There was one incident of note during the session. Daniel Suarez spun into the infield, blew a tire and suffered damage to the front splitter on his Toyota Camry.

His team replaced the splitter and Suarez was back on track to complete the practice session.

The Camping World 500 race is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
