Chase Elliott is fastest in Friday’s lone Cup practice at Phoenix

Chase Elliott was fastest in Friday’s only NASCAR Cup practice session at Phoenix Raceway.

Elliott had a top speed of 137.101 mph around the 1-mile oval, tops of the 38 drivers who practiced. Near the end of the session, some smoke came out from Elliott’s car, but his team was inspecting it in the garage afterward.

After Elliott was Kyle Larson (136.472 mph), Joey Logano (136.441), Las Vegas winner Martin Truex Jr. (136.168) and Ryan Blaney (136.157).

The Cup drivers take to the track at 7:45 p.m. ET with qualifying for Sunday’s Camping World 500.
