Jamie McMurray assesses his day at Las Vegas, gives his opinion on fighting in racing, and his outlook for Phoenix.

In an interview with NASCAR America, Chip Ganassi Racing driver Jamie McMurray said “some type” of disciplinary action was warranted against Kyle Busch following his post-race fight with Joey Logano on Sunday.

McMurray shared his thoughts before NASCAR announced no penalties would be issued for the altercation.

“That’s a really tough situation,” McMurray said. “I had a somewhat lengthy discussion with Jeff Gordon on the way home. He flew home with me. We talked about it. I assume they’ll have to take some action. The struggle with that is I have a 6-year-old. And when I got home, my 6-year-old asked me why Kyle Busch go punch Joey Logano? So my view as a racer is different than my view as a parent. So there’s got to be some discipline, some type of action taken towards Kyle. At the same time, I think it’s one thing for Kyle and Joey to have a confrontation and try to work that out. But crew members getting involved is not acceptable. Especially it looked like those guys ganged up on Kyle afterward, and I don’t think that’s right. I think if they want to break it up it’s one thing. But they don’t need to get involved in it.”

McMurray also talks about sharing a ride home with race-winner Martin Truex Jr.
