Mars, Inc: Kyle Busch’s post-race actions ‘not consistent’ with ‘company values’

The last-lap wreck and pit road confrontation between Joey Logano and Kyle Busch ultimately overshadowed Martin Turex Jr.'s win, but the NASCAR America crew isn't convinced blame can be placed on either driver.

A day after Kyle Busch started a fight with Joey Logano that involved both team’s crew members following the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Busch’s primary sponsor expressed it was “disappointed” in his actions.

Mars, Inc., which sponsors the No. 18 car with its M&M’s brand, issued a statement to Fox Sports on Monday.

The recent actions by Kyle Busch are not consistent with the values of Mars Chocolate North America. While we are disappointed with the situation, we hope the drivers and team members involved learn from this experience and continue to grow as professional athletes representing the sport.

Busch retaliated against Logano after contact between the two drivers on the last lap of the Kobalt 400 sent Busch sliding down pit road. He finished 22nd.

In 2011, Mars, Inc. dropped its primary sponsorship of Busch for the final two races of the season after he intentionally wrecked Ron Hornaday Jr. under caution at Texas Motor Speedway in a Camping World Truck Series race.

Monday morning, Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR’s executive vice president and chief racing development officer, said the sanctioning bodies’ “intention would be not to react” to the fight.

Later, NASCAR CEO and Chairman Brian France said “We just shouldn’t come out of our chairs over this. It is what it is. The drivers are doing everything they can.”

In an NBC Sports poll, 61.86 percent of more than 9,200 voters believe Busch should be penalized.

While Joey Logano and Busch’s wife Samantha have had their say, Busch has made no comment on social media or elsewhere other than what he told Fox Sports right after the altercation.
