After capturing Stage 1, Martin Truex Jr. rallied late to also win Stage 2 of Sunday’s Kobalt 400 NASCAR Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Truex Jr. led most of Stage 2 until the first caution of the stage came with eight laps remaining when, on Lap 152, Derrike Cope spun but did not make contact with walls or other cars.
While Truex pitted on the ensuing stop under caution, Jimmie Johnson and Kurt Busch did not and remained on-track, assuming the 1-2 lead at the restart on Lap 155.
But with old tires, Johnson and Busch did not remain in front for long as Truex rocketed past both drivers to regain the lead and take the second stage of the race as he did with the first.
Brad Keselowski is running second at the end of Stage 2, followed by Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott and Joey Logano.
There have been 10 lead changes and four cautions thus far across both stages.
