Ryan Newman tops first Cup Series practice at Atlanta

Ryan Newman claimed the fastest speed late in the first NASCAR Cup Series practice session at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Newman put his No. 31 on top of the chart with a speed of 187.875 mph.

The Richard Childress Racing driver topped Jamie McMurray (187.735), Kyle Busch (187.595) Matt Kenseth (187.494) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (187.487).

Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch was 14th fastest.
