DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - NASCAR announced that the cars of Martin Truex Jr., Chris Buescher and AJ Allmendinger failed minimum height requirements after Thursday night’s qualifying races at Daytona International Speedway.

All three teams will start at the rear of the field in Sunday’s Daytona 500.

Truex and Allmendinger lose the points they earned in their qualifying race.

Allmendinger had scored six points with his fourth-place finish in the second qualifying race. Truex scored four points with his seventh-place finish in the first qualifying race.

This continues a rough start to Speedweeks for the Furniture Row Racing team of Truex. The team had issues getting through template inspection last weekend, a result of faulty template grids at the Denver shop. Those issues resulted in the roofs of the Furniture Row Racing cars (Truex and rookie Erik Jones) being too high and the decklids being too low.

This marks the second consecutive year Truex will start at the rear of the Daytona 500 field. Last year, a crash in his qualifying race forced him to go to a backup car. He had started at the rear of his qualifying race last year because of a roof flap issue that prevented him from making a qualifying attempt. Despite all that, he finished second in the Daytona 500 to Denny Hamlin.
