Legendary singer/musician Charlie Daniels and his band will headline the traditional Saturday Night Infield Concert on May 6 at Talladega Superspeedway, part of a triple-header race weekend at the largest oval racetrack on the NASCAR circuit.

Known for songs such as “Devil Went Down To Georgia,” “Long Haired Country Boy,” “Uneasy Rider” and “America, I Believe In You,” the 80-year-old Daniels is a music icon, having been inducted last year into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Daniels, who grew up in the heart of NASCAR country, North Carolina, has a long history with the sport, including writing “The Intimidator,” an ode to meeting the late Dale Earnhardt at Talladega on Oct. 15, 2000, Earnhardt’s last NASCAR career win.

Daniels was also part of a series of commercials for UPS when NASCAR Hall of Famer and NASCAR on NBC analyst Dale Jarrett drove the No. 88 UPS-sponsored car in 2002.

Admission to the concert is free with the purchase of a race ticket to the May 7 Geico 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race.

“Race fans expect our Saturday night infield concerts to be as electrifying as the racing action on the track,” Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch said in a media release. “The Charlie Daniels Band is iconic and provides a unique flavor of music that has been at the forefront of Southern country rock.

“It will definitely be a show fans don’t want to miss. I know that I can’t wait!”
