Terri Parsons, the widow of NASCAR announcer Benny Parsons, talks about how much he appreciate the fan support throughout his career and what an honor it was to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

CHARLOTTE -- The widow of former champion and NBC Sports analyst Benny Parsons accepted the NASCAR Hall of Fame ring for her late husband during Friday’s induction.

During an interview with NBCSN’s Krista Voda (video above), Terri Parsons said Benny would have started his induction speech by thanking those who helped him throughout his career.

“There’s a lot of old crew members that worked on numerous cars that he drove that are here, and I talked to a lot of you tonight, as well,” Terri Parsons said. “Most of all, the most important thing about tonight for him would be the people and especially the fans, understand how much they meant to him and how much he loved each and every one of you.

“You all have such great stories, and tonight is really a celebration of his life. This is not sad, this is happy. I’m the only one that’s sad.”

Parsons, who won the 1973 Cup championship and worked as a broadcaster on NBC Sports from 2001-06, died at 65 in January 2007 from cancer.

He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame by 1999 champion and NBC Sports analyst Dale Jarrett, a 2014 inductee to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
