WHAT WENT RIGHT: Won his last premier series race in his last visit to Sonoma Raceway, passing Denny Hamlin on the final corner ... Qualified for the Chase in his final season before being eliminated after the first round.

WHAT WENT WRONG: Missed the first eight races due to a back injury sustained prior to the Daytona 500 ... Recorded four DNFs (Dover I, Richmond II, Daytona II and Darlington) ... Finished 22nd, two laps down in final premier series start at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2017: Will still be at the track in his ownership role at Stewart-Haas Racing but will now spend his free time in other racing series like sprint cars.
