Xfinity Series team JGL Racing has announced that Dakoda Armstrong will return to the organization in 2017 to drive its No. 28 Toyota. WinField will be the car’s primary sponsor in 20 races.

Armstrong, who has been competing in NASCAR since 2009, drove full-time for JGL in 2016. His best result was fifth at Iowa for his first top-five finish since he started in Xfinity in 2012. He completed the season with an average finish of 19.2.

“I am very excited to return to JGL Racing for the 2017 season,” said Armstrong in a press release. “We made tremendous gains during the 2016 season and that showed with the speed we had in our No. 28 WinField Toyota at the end of the season. I feel at home at JGL Racing and look to improve on what we built during the first season together. And I want to thank my sponsor WinField for the continued support and we can’t wait to get to Daytona and get the 2017 season started.”

Prior to 2016, Armstrong competed for Richard Petty Motorsports in the Xfinity Series from 2014-15. The native of New Castle, Indiana, also has 44 starts in the Camping World Truck Series, with two top fives.

“We are honored to have Dakoda and WinField back with our organization for the 2017 season” said JGL Racing owner James Whitener in the press release. “We have grown a lot together during this past season and we look to continue that growth in 2017. Dakoda and the guys really started to gel together in the second half of the season and we will look to continue with that right out of the gate in Daytona. We have a lot of great things happening with our team as we continue to take steps towards growing into one of the top organizations in the Xfinity Series.”

The 2017 Xfinity Season begins on Feb. 25 with the PowerShares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway.
