Richard Childress Racing has announced Sammy Johns as its new operations director.

Johns, who will report to director of competition Dr. Eric Warren, will manage and coordinate the manufacturing and car assembly processes and will oversee the team’s crew chiefs and team execution.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join such an iconic sports organization in Richard Childress Racing,” Johns said in a press release. “The level of engineering and technical expertise at RCR is second-to-none, and I look forward to contributing my knowledge and capabilities to helping this team succeed in 2017 and beyond.”

Johns arrives at RCR after serving as vice president of operations at Richard Petty Motorsports and working for its previous incarnation, Evernham Motorsports, as competition director.

RCR is coming off its third winless season in a row. It will field Paul Menard, Austin Dillon and Ryan Newman in 2017 while giving support to Germain Racing, which will field Ty Dillon in the No. 13.
