Daniel Suarez started his day Saturday morning by winning the pole for the Xfinity Series championship-deciding Ford EcoBoost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Suarez will lead the field to the green for this afternoon’s race, which will be televised on NBCSN at 3:30 p.m. ET. Will the Mexico native be able to take the checkered flag and capture his first NASCAR championship 300 miles later?
Or will it be the other three championship round drivers -outside pole-sitter Elliott Sadler, third-place starter Erik Jones or sixth-place starter Justin Allgaier?
Suarez took the top spot in the last of three rounds of qualifying with a speed of 169.924 mph.
Sadler’s speed was 169.747 mph, followed by Jones’ 169.454 mph effort and Allgaier’s 168.120 mph showing.
Sandwiched in-between were non-championship contenders and Sprint Cup regulars Ryan Blaney (will start fourth, 168.587 mph) and Austin Dillon (will start fifth, 168.545 mph).
