William Byron fastest in opening Truck Series practice at Homestead

William Byron was fastest in opening practice ahead of Friday night’s Ford EcoBoost 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway with a lap of 171.914 mph.

Byron, who was eliminated from the Chase last weekend, will compete for the final time in the Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports as he heads to the Xfinity Series next year.

Kyle Larson was second fastest at 171.217 mph. Johnny Sauter was the fastest Chase driver at fourth fastest with a lap of 171.162 mph while Cole Custer (171.157 mph) and Matt Crafton (171.135 mph), another Chase driver, rounded out the top five.

Sauter and Crafton were the only two Chase drivers in the top 10 on the practice sheet.

Timothy Peters was 11th fastest at 169.497 mph. Christopher Bell was 14th fastest at 168.455 mph.
