Kyle Larson spins out in the opening seconds of the race, almost colliding with Joey Logano.

The final Chase cutoff race at Phoenix International Raceway got off to a breathtaking start when Kyle Larson spun in Turn 3 on Lap 1.

Larson was fighting for the second position with Chase driver Joey Logano when he slid up, bounced off the side of the No. 22 and spun around. Logano was able to hang onto his machine and drove away, with minor damage to the left-rear fender. Crew chief Todd Gordon elected to keep Logano on track instead of pitting to pull the fender away from the tire.

After Logano’s spotter, Tab Boyd. and teammate Ryan Blaney assessed the damage, crew chief Todd Gordon elected to keep Logano on track instead of pitting to pull the fender away from the tire.

Logano restarted second and would take the lead for the first time on Lap 93.

Larson also avoided major damage in the spin and was able to continue on after making a pit stop for fresh tires. But Larson would spin again on Lap 83 after contact with Ryan Newman at the entrance to pit road.
