FORT WORTH, Texas – Tony Stewart made it 33 races without being bothered with a lavish retirement gift.
Then he came to Eddie Gossage’s track.
A year after the general manager of Texas Motor Speedway presented Jeff Gordon with two miniature horses, Gossage sprung a surprise for Stewart during driver introductions for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500.
On the introduction stage, Gossage grabbed Stewart by the left arm and slowly dragged him across the stage to where a 6-foot tall bobblehead of Stewart was unveiled.
It’s an exact replica of the regular sized bobbleheads that were given out to the first 30,000 fans who arrived at the 1.5-mile track.
Stewart has had a close relationship with Gossage and the track, where he’s won two times. Every year, the track holds the “Smoke Show” Fantasy Camp, which benefits the Speedway Children’s Charities.
Stewart starts 23rd in his 28th and final race at Texas.
