Carl Edwards will have his work cut out for him over the next two weeks if he’s going to race for a championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
During a round of green flag pit stops at Martinsville Speedway, Edwards lost the right-front tire on his No. 19 and slammed the Turn 1 wall on Lap 357. He then went over the curb and through the grass near the entrance to pit road as he tried to pit.
After his Joe Gibbs Racing team attempted to repair the damage on pit road, Edwards made the hard left turn to the garage for additional repair work.
“I’m sorry, bud,” Edwards told his crew chief, Dave Rogers, and team.
He was told, “Don’t be sorry. We’re going to win Texas; win Phoenix.”
