Today’s Sprint Cup race at Talladega: Start time, weather, TV/radio info

After so much talk about this race and it’s impact on the Chase, it is finally here -- time to go racing at Talladega Superspeedway.

The Chase field will be cut from 12 to eight after this event.

Here’s all the important info for today’s race.

(All times are Eastern)

START: Bobby Allison, four-time Talladega winner, will give the command to start engines at 2:07 p.m. The green flag is scheduled for 2:19 p.m.

DISTANCE: The race is scheduled for 188 laps (500 miles) around the 2.66-mile track.

PRERACE SCHEDULE: The Cup garage opens at 9:30 a.m. The driver/crew chief meeting is at noon. Driver introductions are at 1:25 p.m.

NATIONAL ANTHEM: The 313th United States Army Brass Quintet will perform the National Anthem at 2:01 p.m., followed by a flyover by B-1 Lancer, 354th Bomb Squadron, Dyess Air Force Base in Texas.

TV/RADIO: NBCSN will broadcast the race with its coverage beginning at 1 p.m. with NASCAR America. Countdown to Green will follow at 1:30 p.m. Race coverage begins at 2 p.m. Motor Racing Network’s radio broadcast begins at 1 p.m. and also can be heard at mrn.com. SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will have MRN’s broadcast.

FORECAST: The wunderground.com site predicts a temperature of 75 degrees at race time with a zero percent chance of rain at the start of the race.

LAST TIME: Brad Keselowski led a race-high 46 laps to win the May race. Kyle Busch placed second. Austin Dillon was third in a race that saw the cars of Matt Kenseth and Chris Buescher go airborne in separate accidents. Joey Logano won this race a year ago. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was second. Jeff Gordon placed third.
