Jimmie Johnson led a race-high 118 laps at Chicagoland Speedway but was in disbelief and “dumbfounded” by the pit road speeding penalty that relegated him to a 12th-place finish.
“I just can’t believe I got in trouble down there leaving the pits,” Johnson told NBCSN. “Go ram my head through a wall real quick and maybe I’ll feel better I guess. I feel terrible for these guys; should have been a top five day.”
