Ray Evernham, Jeff Gordon’s former crew chief, said he was not surprised by the driver’s return and believes that Gordon can help Hendrick Motorsports with its cars.
Gordon will drive the No. 88 Chevrolet at Indianapolis and Pocono as Dale Earnhardt Jr. continues to recover from concussion-like symptoms.
“I think that the sharpness has just been off of the Hendrick cars, they’re not as sharp as people want,’' Evernham said on NASCAR America. “It would be good to get Jeff back in one of the cars and maybe give some of his input to the engineering staff as well.’'
