Hendrick Motorsports looks to add to its lengthy list of milestones in Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.

Since Rick Hendrick formed his racing organization in 1984, HMS has claimed 242 wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, second to only Petty Enterprises’ record 268 wins. Jeff Gordon has more than one-third of the HMS total with 93 victories.

Sunday, HMS hopes to achieve yet another milestone: its 1,000th all-time top-five finish in Sprint Cup competition.

HMS’s first win was also its first top five finish: Geoff Bodine on April 29, 1984, at Martinsville Speedway.

Gordon – who is coming out of retirement to race for the sidelined Dale Earnhardt Jr. both Sunday and next weekend at Pocono -- has compiled the most top-fives of any driver in HMS history: 325.

That’s nearly one-third of all of HMS’s top-five showings.

Jimmie Johnson is a distant second to Gordon with 213 top-fives.

Thus far in 2016, HMS has 19 top-five finishes among its four drivers: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Johnson, Chase Elliott and Kasey Kahne.

The organization’s all-time top-five finishes record is 57, set in 2007.
