Kyle Busch suffered engine failure at Michigan, causing the Joe Gibbs Racing driver to finish out of the top 30 for the fourth straight race.

Kyle Busch’s May-June swoon continued Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.

The defending Sprint Cup champion suffered an engine failure in his No. 18 Toyota shortly after a Lap 50 restart following the first caution in the FireKeepers Casino 400.

“At least I had a 30-lap warning it was coming,” Busch told FS1. “Shaking really bad and going south for a while, and been building its own heat. Just unfortunate. Not just today but the last four races have been really, really bad.”

Busch entered Michigan with a streak of three consecutive finishes outside the top 30 – 30th at Dover International Speedway, 33rd at Charlotte Motor Speedway and 31st at Pocono Raceway.

This will mark the fifth finish outside the top 30 in 15 races this season for Busch, who virtually has qualified for the playoffs by virtue of consecutive wins at Martinsville Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.

“It’s good we started off as well as we did,” Busch said. “It’s got us a good start, a good foundation.

“We have to get this luck turned around and get us going in the right direction back to where we need to be finishing wise. The cars are fast. Adam and the guys have done a great job every week. (Toyota) power has been great. Unfortunate circumstances have been coming our way.”
