Toyota took four of the top five spots in Friday’s final practice session at Kansas Speedway with Martin Truex Jr. leading the way.
Truex paced the field with a lap of 187.696 mph. He was followed by Joe Gibbs Racing’s Matt Kenseth (187.617 mph) and Denny Hamlin (187.357). JGR’s Kyle Busch was fifth on the speed chart at 187.214 mph.
Jimmie Johnson, who was fourth, was the only non-Toyota driver in the top five at 187.285 mph. Johnson’s engine was smoking during the session but the team said it would not need to be changed.
