George Brett, the former Kansas City Royal and MLB Hall of Famer, has been named the grand marshal for the May 7 Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway.
Brett, who played his entire career with the Royals at third base and as a designated hitter, was one of the first people in line to buy season tickets when they went on sale prior to the track’s opening in 2001.
“George Brett is an iconic figure, not just in Kansas City but to sports fans across the country, and I’m excited to have him take part in the Go Bowling 400,” said Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren in a press release.
In his 21-year career, Brett was a 13-time All-Star, named the 1980 American League MVP and won a Gold Glove in 1985. The Royals won their first World Series title that year.
