Rockingham Speedway, which hosted NASCAR Sprint Cup races from 1965-2004, is set to be auctioned next month, according to the Richmond County Daily Journal.

The newspaper reported that a notice of foreclosure sale filed in Richmond County Superior Court states that the property will be sold at public auction May 5. The newspaper reported that the sale will be open at 11 a.m. at the Richmond County Courthouse and be held open for 10 days for upset bids as required by law.

Rockingham Speedway — previously known as North Carolina Speedway — saw NASCAR Hall of Famer Curtis Turner win the inaugural NASCAR race there Oct. 31, 1965. Matt Kenseth won the final Cup race there on Feb. 22, 2004.

Former racer Andy Hillenburg purchased the track for $4 million in Oct. 2007 and brought NASCAR back to the track with the Camping World Truck Series in 2012 and 2013 and the K&N Pro Series East in 2012.

The first race after the track had been purchased was an ARCA race in May 2008. Joey Logano won that event.
