Martin Truex Jr. and crew chief Cole Pearn blame Joey Logano for the incident that caused Truex Jr. to go into the way in Fontana. While Logano took responsibility, will tension between the two drivers carry over?

Joey Logano took the blame for an incident with Martin Truex Jr., but that didn’t soothe Truex after Sunday’s Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway.

The two were battling for fourth on Lap 151 when Logano caused Truex’s car to go into the wall. The damage and a pit road speeding penalty led to Truex finishing 32nd, while Logano placed fourth.

Logano had his spotter tell Truex’s spotter after the incident he did not intend to make contact. Logano and Truex spoke briefly after the race.

“I was going to go on the outside of him, and he was going to go into the top as well,’' Logano told Motor Racing Network after the race. “I just ended up being right on him. Never touched each other, but just taking the air off these cars makes them uncontrollable. I didn’t mean to do that. I’m taking the hit on that one.’'

Truex told Motor Racing Network: “How did the air get taken off if he was behind me? He just run me over. It’s ridiculous. We had a great car all day and hate for my guys we’ve got nothing to show for it. I don’t know why he was trying to fake me out. Just pass me. He just screwed up. He knows he screwed up, and I’m going to race him differently from now on.’'

Truex’s finish was his worst of the season. The Daytona 500 runner-up had not finished worse than 14th in the first four races.
