The 23-year old Rico Abreu captured the first checkers of his career in NASCAR's K&N Pro Series East at Columbus by holding off an aggressive Grant Quinlan during the NAPA 150.

Rico Abreu is in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this week, attempting to defend last year’s win in the Chili Bowl.

Abreu kicked off his title defense with news that he’s landed a full-time ride in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

According to a report by Motorsport.com, Abreu will drive the No. 98 Truck for ThorSport in the NCWTS. Doug George is expected to be his crew chief.

Abreu is expected to make a formal announcement of the deal, as well as also possibly announcing a major sponsorship, Friday in Tulsa.

Abreu had two starts in the Truck Series last season for team owner Bob Newberry, finishing 28th at Phoenix (crash) and 13th a week later in the season-ending race at Homestead.

He ran the full K&N Pro Series East circuit in 2015 as well, finishing fifth, earning one win, four top-fives and eight top-10s in 14 starts. He also earned four poles and had an average start of 7.6 and average finish of 9.4.

Abreu also won the 2014 USAC Midget Series championship.

ThorSport is celebrating its 21st season in the Camping World Truck Series, making the Sandusky, Ohio-based organization the longest-running team in Truck annals.

Abreu will team with two-time Truck Series champ Matt Crafton, as well as promising young drivers Cameron Hayley and Ben Rhodes.
