Kevin Harvick only NASCAR driver to make Sports Illustrated Social 100

Son Keelan graces Kevin Harvicks Twitter home page.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. may be the most popular driver in NASCAR for 13 years running. And with 1.7 million Twitter followers, he’s a bonafide social media superstar.

Not far behind is Danica Patrick and her 1.3 million followers.

Meanwhile, further down the line is Kevin Harvick, who has about a third (604K) of Junior’s Twitter followers and less than half of Danica’s followers.

But when it came to naming its Social 100 of most notable athletes in the social media world, Sports Illustrated bypassed Earnhardt and Patrick and chose Harvick as the only NASCAR – or any other form of motorsport, for that matter – driver on the list.

“Few athletes do a better job of connecting with fans on Twitter,” SI remarked about Harvick.

But come on, Jose Canseco and Lil Wayne Weezy F make the list, and yet Dale Jr. or Patrick or some other NASCAR driver don’t? Or what about Formula One’s Lewis Hamilton or IndyCar’s Graham Rahal or Tony Kanaan or Helio Castroneves? They’re all among the most sociable -- and social media conscious drivers -- in the world.

USA Today motorsports writer Jeff Gluck also made the list, with SI saying, “A must-follow for all things NASCAR.”
