The National Motorsports Press Association has named late IndyCar driver Justin Wilson as the recipient of the third quarter Spirit Award.

Wilson died at 37 following a head injury suffered in the Aug. 24 race at Pocono Raceway.

According to the NMPA, the award is designed to recognize character and achievement in the face of adversity, sportsmanship and contributions to motorsports.

An organ donor, the NMPA cited Wilson’s organs helping save the lives of six people following his death.

The previous 2015 winners of the award were NASCAR’s Holly Cain and Fox Sports’ Steve Byrnes.
