Clint Bowyer reveals Buddy Baker tribute paint scheme for Southern 500

Baker - Bowyer

Two weeks following the passing of NASCAR icon Buddy Baker, Michael Waltrip Racing driver Clint Bowyer revealed his Southern 500 paint scheme is a tribute to Baker.

Bowyer originally took to Instragram to show off his No. 15 Toyota, which will be sponsored by 5-hour Energy in the Sept. 6 race. The below video shows a time lapse of the car being hand-painted. The scheme was used on Baker’s car during the 1974 season when he drove for Bud Moore in 16 of 19 races.

Bowyer’s paint scheme joins the growing ranks for the Sept. 6 race on NBC, including Kyle Larson, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Austin Dillon and Denny Hamlin.

Among Baker’s 19 Sprint Cup wins were two at Darlington Raceway, in 1970 and ’71.
